Manchester Passion

Being a Northern gal, I felt compelled to watch this programme. And I don't regret it.

The gospel-style performances by the woman who played the part of Mary were superb – especially her version of Robbie Williams – Angels (although I never liked that song). And the song choices at certain points of the plot were aptly clever. I was particularly impressed when Jesus sang a favorite of mine – James' Sit Down at the part when all the disciples fell asleep whilst he was praying in Gethsemane. And Jesus and Judas singing New Order's How Does it Feel in the Kiss of Betrayal scene was…well – it just felt right.

The scenes of a reporter interviewing random people on the streets were clearly choreographed and scripted and some of the singing was terrible but then, it wasn't meant to be perfect.

I thought it was a novel and original version of events which although contemporary rather than traditional, remained loyal and respectful to the Christian Easter story.

Good one Manchester.
