Updated Seven Deadly Sins

Lust, greed, pride, sloth, gluttony, envy, wrath are the original deadly sins.  The Vatican has imposed a new set of sins that, to paraphrase Bishop Gianfranco Girotti,  have appeared on the horizon of humanity as the unstoppable process of globalistation

Environmental pollution
Genetic manipulation
Accumulating excessive wealth
Inflicting poverty
Drug trafficking and consumption
Morally debatable experiments

Bishop Girrotti said that we have lost the notion of sin.  Well farbeit for me to have an opinion on matters pertaining to the Catholic faith, not being a Catholic myself, but I’ve never actually had any notion of sin, at least not in terms of Catholic doctrine, and I’ve always regarded the Catholic use of sin and guilt as a way of controlling the people.

I’ve said before, I will never be able to grasp this concept of sin – of being born sinners.  The catholic catechism says that if we die in sin – without having confessed first, we will go straight to hell.  Then they complicate matters even further with a little thing called ‘limbo’.  I wrote about limbo once here but basically it is a nowhere place where people who were born before the first coming of Jesus and unbaptised dead babies are sent to forever.

As for the modern sin-list, they say it is less individualistic in that it’s clearer that sinful deeds have a wider affect . . . on other people and on society.  Basically, it’s just a condensed list of the ‘Vatican forbiddens’ that the priests have been trying to infiltrate into government and society for years.  The way I see it is that Catholic people can still sin but if they make sure they go to church and repent, they will be absolved.  And if they have the misfortunate to die en route to the confessional box they’ve had it.

So what’s new?

  1. This is in my opinion more hipocrisy to accumulate to the olden traditions.

Sins should be those aspects of our lives that affect our coexistence, and nothing else.

In a few words: a strict adherence to ethics and the wellfare of the world.

And yes, Earthpal, it seems the Roman Church is trying to tighten its control the world over.

By the way: will a mere confession “clean” the rich of their sin of being extremely rich or should they deliver the excess wealth to alleviate poverty, of course through Church channels?

    I just wonder.
