Free Aung San Suu Kyi

From the good people at Avaaz:

Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi is seriously ill, locked up by the brutal Burmese regime on new trumped up charges.

This cruel maneuver comes days before her 13 years of detention expires and will keep her jailed until after the 2010 elections. The only ‘crime’ she committed was to peacefully call for democracy.

Burma’s brave democracy activists are calling on UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to secure all 2,100 political prisoners release — he can make this a condition of any renewed international engagement. We have just six days to get Ban Ki Moon’s attention — the petition will be presented on May 26th. Sign the petition below and forward the email.

Petition.

  4. Well, Aung San Suu Kyi is not a Weapon of Massive Destruction. She is just one of the bravest women in the world, and the World’s Powers should consider that women when stirred may become worse weapons than WMDs.

Down with the Burmese Authorities by a way or the other, but down with them.

  6. This has made my heart soar. Many years of her life have been indefensibly stolen from her but for now, celebrations are called for.

  7. What has Myanmar that Iraq didn’t? The democratic world has breathed at long last. Let’s hope this lady isn’t touched any more by the cowardice of the Burmese military. Her imprisonment has not been but a blatant sign of weakness.

  8. I hope to goodness they don’t concoct a false allegation against her and imprison her for another fifteen years. She’s a thorn in their ugly side.
